Obituary for John F. Salimbene MD

John F. Salimbene MD
Dr. John F. Salimbene, was tragically killed on Sunday December 4, 2016 in a massive fire at his home at 174 Grand Boulevard Scarsdale NY. He was 85 years old and continued to practice every day in his home office until his death. Dr. Salimbene is survived by his devoted wife, Marie of 60 years. Marie was known for running the office and for attending to their patients with loving, compassion and willingness to accommodate patients’ needs at any time. Their lifelong partnership as both husband and wife and dedicated professionals served many throughout their over 55 years of practice in Scarsdale. Dr. Salimbene had 7 children John Jr, Rita, Deborah, Jennifer, Bernadette, Frances, and Michael. Additionally, the family has 12 grandchildren, Ann, Emily, John III, David, Adriana, Daniel, Ashley, Melissa, Jessica, Michael, Luke, Hannah, and 3 great grandchildren, Johnathan, Chance, and Eddie. All the children and grandchildren had their own unique nicknames given to them by him.
Dr. Salimbene was an USAF Veteran where he served as a Flight Surgeon for 4 years at various confident bases settling in at SAC Base Myrtle Beach South Carolina. Besides his family, and the thousands of lifelong patients in the Westchester Area, Dr. Salimbene loved the service he gave to the USAF.
The son of Italian Immigrants, his parent Vincent and Frances lived in the Throgs Neck area of the Bronx NY where he took 4 buses to attend Fordham Prep and University. Eventually, he built his family practice in Scarsdale NY. It is at this very place he started his family practice where he ultimately passed away from the tragic fire. A deeply religious man, Christmas was Dr. Salimbene favorite holiday. Many will remember that the Salimbene home was always decorated for Christmas with bright lights and a crèche.
Dr. Salimbene attended the prestigious University of Rome Medical School where he and Marie lived until he began his residency in Flushing Hospital in Queens before moving to his Scarsdale Office. Dr. Salimbene spent over 50 years as Tuckahoe Police Surgeon, and worked at St. Agnes Hospital in White Plains and at Lawrence Hospital in Bronxville. He treated the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal and the Sisters Of Life. He was beloved by all his patients. Many considered him a confidant and a friend.
The family will receive friends at the WESTCHESTER FUNERAL HOME, INC. EASTCHESTER Saturday and Sunday, 2-8 pm. Mass, Monday December 12, 2016 at 10:00 am at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Scarsdale.
