Obituary for Domenica Curreri

Domenica Curreri (nee Verni) passed away on April 4, 2018. She was 88 years old. Born in Sannicandro di Bari, Italy to John and Angelina Verni. She emigrated to the US with her parents at 6 months of age. She attended PS 77 Elementary School and PS 96 Junior High School. During WWII she helped the customers of her family's grocery business assemble, wrap, and mail CARE packages to US soldiers in Europe. After graduating from Julia Richman High School in 1947 she enrolled in New York University and earned her Bachelor of Science degree and her Masters degree in Education making her the first person in her family to go to college.
She taught art in the Yonkers Public Schools for thirty years. After her retirement, she spent the next 20 years working with her son John in his business. Her talents and interests were many and included art, theater, and a love of classic movies. She enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, gardening, cooking and reading mystery novels.
She was married to Joseph Curreri for 63 years. He predeceased her. She leaves behind her devoted and loving son John and his wife Lisa, granddaughters, Kayla, Adriana, and Juliana, and her grandson Joseph. Also her son Leonard "Lee", his wife Sherry and grandsons Joseph and Sammy. She is also survived by her brother Vito Verni and her sister Rita Coppolechia.
The family will receive friends at the WESTCHESTER FUNERAL HOME, INC. EASTCHESTER Monday, April 9, 2018, 4-7 pm. Mass, Tuesday April 10, 2018 at 10:00 am at Annunciation Church, Crestwood.
